Can I just ask the assistant to create a claim?
Yes. Describe the visit in a sentence and the assistant does the entry.
Open the patient’s page first, so the assistant already knows who you are talking about, then describe the visit the way it reads on the encounter form: who was seen, on what date, by which doctor, what was done, and why.
Watch what happens next, because this pattern is the same everywhere in the product.
It finds the patient. It searches by name and reuses the record you already have, instead of creating a second one.
It shows its work. It lays out the claim it wants to build, field by field, on screen, before anything is real.
Nothing exists yet. The last line is asking your permission. At that moment there is no claim, and the assistant cannot go around you. Until you agree, here in the conversation, it is not allowed to create anything.
You approve, and only then it creates. It tells you exactly what it made, and the price comes from the practice’s own fee schedule, not from the assistant.
The result is a draft, with a line underneath saying it was created by the assistant on your behalf. It will not go anywhere until a person sends it, and it even tells you what is still missing. See What is a draft claim, and when does it actually go out?.
