How do I turn a stack of paper into claims?

Most practices still run on paper. A superbill is the sheet a practice fills in after a visit: who was seen, what was done, what it costs. Bill import turns that stack into patients, doctors, charges and draft claims, with you in charge the whole way.

Go to Claims, then open Bill import. Drop scans or phone photos straight onto the page, up to twenty five files at a time. One reading pass takes everything off each page: the letterhead, the doctors, the patients, every charge line. It never invents a value. What the paper does not print stays empty and flagged.

When it finishes you get a review table with five tabs: patients, groups, doctors, charges, claims. The number on each tab is how many rows still need a decision from you. None of it exists yet. It is a proposal.

The order matters, because records hang off each other: patients and groups first, then doctors, then charges, then claims. A claim whose doctor is still a draft is held back and says so, and the button changes to create both together in the right order.

Two rules worth memorizing:

  • Confirming a charge puts it on the patient account, not on a claim. The account is the running bill. A claim is only the envelope that carries some of it.
  • A self pay line never rides on an insurance claim. Count the charge chips on a proposed claim row and you will see the cash line missing. That is the rule holding, on screen.
